Replies Not Showing Up?

Sorry, I'm starting to get desperate.

When I attempt to post replies on several different image boards, including 4chan, I checkmark the post(s) I wish to reference in my reply but the reference numbers never show up.

Basically, I try to reply to something specific, and it never works. My post appears, but the re:s don't show. Is there a step I'm missing?

It does not happen for me, even if I check the box of the post I want to reply to before I click "reply."
