Are you afraid of dying?

If you are: why?

I believe fear of death is partly based on the false premonition that death is somehow a state of being. It’s not.
After the point of your death, you cease to exist. That does not mean floating around in darkness. It doesn't mean being nothing.
It means eternal nothingness of no non-existence. Nothing.

In other words, nothing to worry about.

My only fear involving death is of pain or horror surrounding death.
Like if you told me I'd died quietly in my sleep tonight. Well ok. I wish you'd told me yesterday so I could say bye to some freinds with out having to call and wake them, but other wise, ok. But if I woke up in bed tonight to find you standing at the foot of my bed weilding a chainsaw... NOT COOL. >:( Jerk.

No, it IS something to worry about.  I worry about not being able to worry.

Perhaps you should consider my alternative.  I have decided that I am going to take my own life before I become old and sick and whatever (so long as I'm not in some horrible accident that renders me too demented to take things in to my own hands).  I will take pain killers, with happy drugs like ecstasy or something.  And then end things in a quick, painless way.  That, or get in a tub of ice water and die of hypothermia (with pain killers, this would not be an uncomfortable death).  The reason why I lean towards the freezing death is because a lot of people report near death experiences when they get hypothermia.  I want one.

For some reason, which will forver confuse me, a lot of people do not wish to take their life in to their own hands, even though by doing so, there is no possibility of dying a painful death.  For some reason, this does not give people peace of mind.  I do not understand.

Sorry, but in my own opinion. Death is not death. Even Einstein said "There has to be a life after death. Energy just doesn't stop exsisting. It converts, or transends"..

I think there is no death. Only life after life, after life. It's only this biological, illusion has decided that it can not keep going on. Too much effort for it. And the energy (soul, conscienceness, ect..) Just converts.

It's not the actual fear of death it's self. It's fear of not knowing what lies ahead.

As for me I ironically forced myself to believe in reincarnation when I thought about death.

But lately I found a few "goals" in my life. And now I've set them before me I feel that after I've completed them I can care less about death.
What I fear would naturally be to somehow fail to reach the goals I wanted to reach before it's too late.

I'm afraid of dying too early and missing out on what life I have.

There have been times I've been quite desperate to die, or more recently, wish I would die at that moment because I have/had accomplished everything I wanted to in life and everything was pretty much perfect and I didn't want to have that perfection ruined.

Living sucks, but I'm too much of a pussy to kill myself.

I'm not "afraid" of death, but it's certainly something to avoid. If I'm dead, then I'm not alive, and life is AWESOME.

Ideally, at some point in my lifetime I'll be able to transfer my mind into a sexy cyborg so I'll be able to live indefinitely. Sexy cyborgs are the solution to most of life's problems.

Not particularly scared, but I'd hate to die, because I'm not sure about afterlife and it would really suck balls if I just ceased to exist. I know Hopefully I can become somewhat immortal or atleast extend my lifespan in future.

The fact that it might be that, Nothing, is exactly why it IS something to worry about. I'd rather be floating in eternal darkness, or even go to hell than cease to exist.

I've no idea what happens after death (no one does) but the possibility that it might end in absolute nothingness is what terrifies me. To cease to exist is at the absolute bottom of the "things I'd like to do" list for me. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING could be worse IMO.

Don't be a jew.  Not existing isn't so bad.  Anyway, you don't have to worry about it because you will still exist after you die.  You just won't be conscious of anything.  At least, all that gives you your personal identity will not be conscious.  Other life forms will be consious though, so in a way, the universe will always be conscious of itself.  And perhaps some day we will all be able to assimilate the consciousness of other beings, in a way like the borg, but hopefully not in such a disturbing way.  Does that give you enough hope that there is eternal life?

There is always hope for eternal life.  I think of it this way... there will probably always be life forms in the universe... and they will probably always be advancing and evolving over millions, or billions of years... perhaps evolving to some great purpose which I do not yet understand.  And even if this universe some day is destroyed, either by the big crunch, or by expanding in to nothingness.... there is still a definite possibility of other dimensions and other universes which also contain consciousness.  Therefore, there is a good chance that existence is infinite.  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kinda believe in reincarnation, but as I'm not sure I rather seek for immortality, maybe it will be possibly during my lifetime. It would really suck if I just ceased to exist completely. Ofcourse I wouldn't notice that as I'm really nothing anymore, but mere tough is horrible all would be lost. Not fun at all.
