why is college cooler in the US?

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-08 10:01

if only international student fees weren't so steep. college culture doesn't exist where I am, nobody lives in dorms here.

can someone start up a tour of some sort so tourists can pretend to join greek systems and live in dorms for say a week? i'd pay for that!

What makes you think US college is so great? From what I've heard it's not.

All of your conceptions about American colleges are just lies and filth Dawson's Creek has spread upon the world! In reality American college is evil. And worthless, like Lady Domina's scumbag slave men.

Axis of evil: Iraq/Iran/North Corea/Stanford university

↑The truth.

Excuse me, now I'll go and continue my gay Finnish life by listening to A-ha and ABBA. Perkele.

What do you mean you don't have a college culture?  I think every college has one.  In the States, you have varying degrees of extremes: From Study Central to Party Central.  Though most, if not all, have a Greek system.  I think you probably want a party school.  In which case, ask around.  As for dorms, the majority of them are small and cramped unless you pay a little extra for more spacious ones or rent off campus.  College is what you make of it so don't use the movies or tv shows as your guide.

fuck the dorms and fuck the parties. i go to learn and then leave. I dont want to hang out with those fags I want to go home and be left the fuck alone. Half these schools are just babysitting for a bunch of fags anyway.

Mediocrity? Where is it? I can't fucking find it! Maybe I should go look in the dorms where all the boring lame kids are.

Enjoy your continuation of your brainwashing process by the education ministry, paid for by you directly this time, lots of fun you must be having hmm?

You have it half right in your process, you might be learning something really technical and specific though, which in the case the place would most likely benefit you, but in most other cases it is better to be away from the "learning" and instead focus on REAL learning, that which one learns directly from the inner self. And yeah, Half of them are just there to babysit retarded "adults" (only in age).

kind of hard to learn things like thermodynamics or pharmacokinetics on your own, so we have colleges.

i do think that people overstate the importance of a 4 year degree for getting a job.  with some exceptions, you really have to go to graduate school to be even remotely useful.

personally, i'm a biochemistry major and i know that my classmates that are majoring in other related sciences are counting on being admitted to grad/med/vet/dent/pharm school.  otherwise, we know that we wasted 4 years of work because the bachelors is useless.

out of curiosity: is this situation similar in canada and europe?

Yes and unfortunately the good old Diploma, while superior to the BA gets replaced with it..

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-14 1:25

Well, I wouldn't say it's cooler... You're just REALLY REALLY

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-14 4:27

College sucks man, get high, play GTA, drink like mad and rarely show up to class and you should be fine.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-14 4:29

Colleges is great for the fact that you actually learn something!...well, more so than if you do in high school
