I've noticed that many people on forums and in real life who are depressed also happen to be of above-average intelligence. You'd think that with knowledge would come happiness and perhaps some degree of control over one's life... But many smart people, so successful in other things, seem incapable of finding a way to achieve happiness or satisfaction.
On the flipside, it's much more rare in my experience to see a stupid person who suffers from the grips of depression. Is ignorance really bliss, or is it just that it's that much harder to deal with the real world if you're painfully aware of every negative detail of your life?

over exposure, the smart ones have been over exposed to knowledge without their choosing and the human mind suffers from de-evolution.
It's something that happens to all things. Nothing lasts forever so you might as well enjoy it with the time you have.
The human mind (to my knowledge) is incapable of unlearning things at will.
A proper balance is necessary in our current state.

the stupid insult the smart because the stupid are angry because the smart are smarter than the stupid. get it?
therefore > smart are depressed while some are successful in life
while the > stupid remain stupid while remain failures in their life

Ignorance is bliss.
Not to say knowledge != bliss in all cases, just that ignornace is usually the shortest path to bliss.

wha tkind of smart are you talking about? Getting top grades, and earning several university degrees hasn't done fuck all for my life. I am not a success because I am smart.
Lately, I've been wishing that I was more stupid, so I didn't put high expectations on myself.

You probably just associate with people who are above average intelligence. Average people get depressed too, although the smarter ones tend to have more anxiety disorders.

You should look up Bipolar Disorder or Manic-Depressive Illness. Some famous writers, scientists and artists have it like Van Gogh, Mark Twain, Isaac Newton, and Jimi Hendrix. Studies also show that bipolar disorder and creativity have some sort of correlation.
Check out this list of famous guys believed to have bipolar disorder. Some were suprising, while a few...less so:
