My friend has skipped an entire week of school to go drink and smoke pot. He's gotten arrested a few times. He's gotten drunk and stoned on a cruise, and his parents found him muttering gibberish. He's spent $1000 from what he saved up when he was a paper boy, and smoked it all in one month (about 7 grams a day). He's been kicked out of a local mall for smoking in their bathrooms. He's said he was quitting smoking many times, but always went back to it. He's 17, I'm 18. I can't really keep an eye on him so he doesn't fuck up too much since I don't hang out with him enough. Should I recommend him getting professional help?

Err, I forgot to ask, how should I approach him about it?

"Sup homes. I don't like the way you flow. Can you dig it?"

his life is finished, just leave him , but what are his parents doing? Why does a friend have to take care of him, i think if you want to help, the most you can do is go to his parents and tell them to stop screwing around and get help for their son. parents are useless these days
He's 17. He's far from being completely fucked. His parents are screwed on their own. They've tried to ground him, they've sent him to a psychiatrist, they think he's crazy and don't know what to do. The last thing I want to do is betray his trust.

You want to associate with such people? I say set him up and have him locked up for good.

I was with someone once who didn't tell me he was doing drugs until we had been together half a year. He told me he was smoking pot. I also ended up finding out he was doing a bunch of other things too. I asked him to stop, and he said OK. But he never did. I tried to tell him the stuff was bad for him but he wouldn't listen. Eventually I told him it's either me or the drugs.
He avoided me after that. I couldn't get ahold of him at all. Bumped into him at the mall and he literally ran away. A few months later he comes back and tells me that he's leaving me for someone else. Go figure, it's some girl who doesn't care about his drug habits. :\
The thing is, people who're doing drugs aren't going to stop for anyone but themselves. Just don't bother. It's pointless.

Because he's a really good person. He never judges anyone, never makes fun of others, he's funny, he's smart when he's not high, and he's one of the very few friends I have. Plus, he's a jock/nerd/religious guy hybrid, which is pretty cool. He just has a problem with addiction. >>8
I'm not going to tell him to stop flat out, since he seems to be having the best time of his life, and he's not going to be able to do this when he's older. I don't mind him having the amazing fun he has doing the drugs, but when he skips school, that's when I want him to settle down a bit.

Then it's selfishness on both ends.
He likes to fuck his shit up and you like him to not.
