NO NO NO NO NO!! You do that, you're going to end up in the "Friend Zone." At best, you may be FWB for a while, but that's it, and if you actually like her, that'll fuck you up even worse.

Why would a guy chase after a girl? Because he wants her. Why does he want her? Because he finds her attractive, an interesting person, and a compatible partner, right?
WRONG! (At least as far as women are concerned.)
To a woman, a guy being attracted to them means one of two things. He wants to get in her pants and little else, or he hopes having a girlfriend will bring him joy and happiness. A woman does NOT want to supply you with happiness. A woman wants a guy who's already happy. That way, she doesn't have to do anything to make him happy. She figures it's better to go after guys who are already happy with themselves instead of dealing with making the guy happy by the relationship.
Hence, she'll try going out with every asshole prick jock before you, since they at least seem happy. (And when your IQ is the same as your shoe size, it doesn't take much to make you happy.) It's better for her to try every last jock this way in hopes of finding somebody who's actually not a total jerk and sleeze, than go with somebody who's unhappy where she's sure to have to work on him.
It's as simple as that.
For tl;dr, this means:
Women want men who are in relationships. If some other woman wants him (and hasn't dumped him yet), it means he's a quality mate. Guys who aren't in relationships are obviously doing something wrong, so they don't want that.
