If you're given up on the idea of loving a girl before asking her out, you'll have real chances as soon as you get to know more girls. In spite of the image they created of themselves, they're more likely to fuck on the first date than say "I love you".
You said you don't ask out girls who are very unattractive or have boyfriends, but you do ask out girls who are intellectually banal. Not few girls qualify, really. You'll find girls under these criteria pretty often, that is, if you meet girls at all. Keep trying!
I don't need to talk, I don't need to have fun, but I feel like my soul is all wound up, and I don't know how to relax it without some companionship (which isn't the same as sex).
Fine on talk; possible problem on fun: most girls want to have fun in silly ways; problem on dependency: most girls won't like you to depend or rely on them because they are selfish and shallow; problem you have to address yourself: you shouldn't depend on others to relax and be happy. I know this is hard because good guys would want to have that special someone, but you'll find almost no girl who thinks like you. The more you want (and depend) on a girl for happiness, the less likely girls who know you will like you. I'm afraid it's this stupid, for if you are happy as you are then you should very well spare yourself of the burden of an immature girl around. So you should learn to enjoy your time alone - a time where you reign over yourself and nobody ruins for you -, to be happy as you are, and to rely only on yourself, not only because of girls, but because of people. You can't count on relying on anybody. No other than yourself will care so much about you and do things exactly they way you like. Finally, don't worry about sex, most girls love it and systematically lie about not enjoying/wanting/needing/liking it at all.
A pet will help you, yes. Both dogs and cats - whichever you like better - are more loyal and sincere companions than most girls, and if you're up for an intellectually banal girl, there's one difference between pets and humans you don't care about. Be sure of this: no girl will ever love you as unconditionally as a good pet.

I might add that even if there were, you should feel proud. Proud of being different than the social ones, the average Joes of society nobody other than relatives would care if they died tomorrow as they are "unique" like everybody else in the oh-so-loved society they belong to. Most times a lowly mob made of "normal people" criticizes something or someone for being "antisocial", "eccentric", or "unusual", the later is great in one or more ways and definitely superior to the rabble that call themselves "society".
