Otaku or Wotaku

are they the same? what is the difference?

"wo" is pronounced like "o", usually. I think it's just a BBS way of writing it.

japanese is to wapanese as otaku is to wotaku

wotaku = white otaku

ヲタク (wotaku) is commonly used in Japan as a direct substitute for "otaku" (and yes, it's pronounced the same). it meaning "white otaku" is largely a 4chan invention and is nowhere near as widespread (try googling).
