Useful languages?

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-06 15:18

So I already know spanish and some english, but I NEED to learn another language. I was thinking in german, but after investigating a little, I came to the conclusion it is not useful at all. I heard french is good, but I don't like it that much, so, any suggestions?

You already know english, the most useful language in the planet, right now, is the international language right now.
You want to speak to some random Russian guy, English my friend!.
Learn some Japanese it will help you if you are a gamer or anime fan.
Chinese for some business, they say is the new emerging economy
Korean to eat some cats, really they have a heavy industry.
thats all all the other languages are useless.

ENGLISH!

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-18 11:23

English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish.

That's about it.

The languages involved in vast (now mostly historical) colonial empires are not surprisingly going to be the most useful. Although, I still would suggest learning "less useful" languages anyway.

Mandarin, with China rising to the top at all.
Portuguese because Brazil also looks promising. However, I think Spanish would be more useful at this point.
French will help you communicate with plenty of African countries.

I'd say you need English and the languages of your nation.

The rest is optional based on interests be it economical or cultural.

Learning a language for the sake of learning a language is kind of useless. In my opinion there are many superior options to achieve personal development.

French hahahahahahahahaha!

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-19 5:12

1.-English
2.-Japanese
3.-Chinese
4.-Korean
5.-Spanish
6.-Some middle east languages if you are americunt (the militia needs you)

all the other languages are fucking useless

Useless is subjective.

Like most inhabitants of a Western country Japanese and Korean are useless for me.

French is the most useful language to learn where I live followed by German, only then English.

Oh and you don't need Chinese either really.

muh rising economy bullshit

It's just somewhat less useless than the other Asian languages.

English is the universal language like it or not.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-22 1:26

The language of love

Name: Anonymous 2013-09-07 14:28

Learn something while you make up your mind. Chances are you'll stick with it and realise that its apparent relevancy it's not the most important thing after all.
I chose a random language because I knew there wouldn't be vacancies for me to take English or French classes, and now I've been learning that language for 3 years. It's far from being a relevant language outside its country but hey, now I speak 3 languages, I've met many awesome people because of that and I could move to that country without problems.
Learning languages is an awesome source of joy.

Fuck you WESTERNBOO!

Can only aggre with 17, Language as a whole and as well as the digital language, but that is another topic entirely.

Language is a great, and it should be, no matter where you are.
Can aswell relate to your question, but take what you find to be the most usefull or the most interessting, the worst thin you can do is to take something that you are not a fond of learning.

Useful/Practical:
Spanish, French, German, Japanese
(widespread, general business, diplomacy, culture, geographic diversity, historically important, cultural ties)

Important/Influential:
Russian, Arab, Mandarin
(politics, specific businesses, diplomacy, culture)

Relevant:
Portuguese
(historical importance, growing influence, number of speakers)

Less important: Italian, Hindi,
(not there yet / not there anymore)

Pick from the first two categories according to taste.

I would definitely study some Mandarin/Chinese, it's the most used language in the world.

If it were me I would go with Japanese. I studied 3 years of Japanese and it's working alright, but there's a fuckton of Kanji, so it's hard to study sometimes.

But really it's just what you are going to do in life. Business purposes, you should do Chinese/Japanese

for fun would definitely be Spanish/Russian/German

anything else is meh.

I'd have to go with one European language, one Asian language, and one Slav language. And English
French, Japanese, Russian seems a great combo

You have no excuse not to know at least some Spanish & French. These are very close languages, being good at one gives a good start for the other, and they're both extremely relevant, no matter how much people like to say that South America isn't relevant or French is useless.

Then, I dunno. German, Japanese, Arab, I guess.

Don't change these.
