Pimsleur Method

Name: Anonymous 2012-12-05 11:20

I'm beginning to learn Japanese through the "Pimsleur audio method" and i'm at the 20th unit, it doesn't look like it gives much informations but i'm not a fast learner, is it a good idea to start japanese with this method or should i switch to something more efficient? (I tried Rosetta and it's MUCH worse imo)...

The kids on the Internet say you should learn Japanese by first memorising kana, then using Heisig or Kanji Damage to learn kanji, then reading Tae Kim's grammar guide while working through Core 6k.  After that, the theory goes, you should be able to learn through native Japanese materials.

I've not used Pimsleur, but its effectiveness is obviously going to be severely limited by the fact that it won't teach you to read or write.

The problem is that pimsleur actually says that the grammar can be destructive for a person that tries to learn a language, since he must first of all know how to talk it, and only then how to read it. Problem is that i don't know if this is true, and if it is, if it's subjective or not.

Try the Michel Thomas Foundation and Advanced course for grammar and the software/textbook called Human Japanese for vocabulary and the same grammar introduced in a slower-paced, friendlier way.

Don't change these.
