No, the first sentence makes no sense. The second does mean "This is an apple" (or "These are apples"). Also, you want は (and not わ) as the topic marker (pronounced "wa" nevertheless).

In a nutshell,
これ = "this"
この = "this [something]"

このりんごはあかいです。 (This apple is red.)
このあかいのはりんごです。 (This red one is an apple.)
