Hey, I'm going to jump right to the point.
I've been studying Japanese on-and-off, from about 2003.
I took Japanese 3 in 2010, and I haven't been practicing much since then.
Now, I've met a couple of legit Japanese people in some of my courses, and I'd like to converse with them fluently, but I can barely remember shit.
I want to not only regain what I lost, but continue to improve.
What do?
For Japanese 1-2 I used "Nakama 1", and for Japanese 3 I used the first half of "Genki!"
I also have "Yookoso"

I'm sure you've got this question many times before, but afaik there's no way to search the threads, so here we go again.
I'm about to be done with Genki II, now what? People seem to be less than loving of "an integrated course to intermediate japanese". It's also my understanding that there's no answer key to the workbook, which is a big no-no since I'm teaching myself here.
Oh and, The Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary for kanji? I'll be done with "kanji look and learn" which teaches 512 kanji when I'm done with Genki II. I've also heard good things about "A Dictionary of Japanese Particles", would it be premature to get that one now?

Oh jesus. I've gotten through 400 kanji in a little more than a week and I think I'm starting to burn out now. Looking at everything I still have to do is intimidating.
Do you mean you can recall the meaning by looking at the character?
Or do you mean you've remembered the word associated with the character (if there is one), maybe a few readings, are able to write it in sane stroke order and are able to recall the character starting from the meaning/word?
If the former - you should look into the latter. If the latter, you're a motherfuckin' monster. Consider getting a few seconds of sleep and you should fully genki again.
Seriously, if it's the latter, at this pace you'll have a very solid grasp of the language in 1-2 months, there's nothing to be intimidated by.

Just finished learning all of hiragana, I've memoriezed each shape's definition and stroke order so I could read anything written in it, but I've still got trouble remembering what about five or six of them look like, I could read them, but if someone spoke them, I wouldn't be able to write them on the spot, and writing exercises are just tedious since I know the stroke and the meaning i don't feel like doing it just for the shape, what are some games that would be in hiragana only or some sites with lots of beginner text in Hiragana only.

They won't come naturally to you until you've written quite a bit. Learn grammar, do exercises, WRITE your answers (tedious in the beginning, I know) then check with the key.. Simple as that.
Have you tried writing down what someone was saying to you? For the longest time I was writing romaji to then find the proper kana/kanjis because they talk so fast, then suddenly a bunch of kana made it into my romaji. Kinda messed with my head when I read it, but I'm just saying, you use the little fuckers and they will become natural.
