Russian or Japanese?

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-15 14:05

Hey /lang/,
I want to learn a new language and I'm trying to decide between Russian or Japanese. I have no practical reason to learn either, they just seem like the most interesting to me.

Which is easier for a native English speaker to pick up?

It would also be great if anyone could recommend some resources for studying either of them.

Thanks.

Russian is useless, there is no good content on it. Maybe only classic literature, but it is not for everyone and reques very advanced level of knowledge.
I think, Japanese is more interesting and useful.

btw, I am russian. Sorry for bad English.

Unless you plan on being a diplomat, or you're learning it for business purposes, Russian isn't very useful.

Japanese on the other hand will at least give you access to things like video games, and a large amount of internet content.

I'd go with Japanese, although it's classified as harder to learn for English speakers than Russian is, it's provides more benefit for someone who is learning a language just to learn a language.
