I'll try and keep this short:
I'm currently studying network engineering at university. I'm good at it, but it's kind of boring. And my parents are paying for my education (not underage, just don't have a job).
I really want to take Japanese (inb4 weeaboo), but my parents would rather that I just focus on my networking classes and gen eds. What should I do? They do pay for my tuition after all, but still... variable-length subnet masking and classless inter-domain routing is kind of boring after a while. I want to learn another language because I think it'd be fun.
So basically, how can I convince my parents to let me take a foreign language class which won't give me any useful credits towards my degree?
Or is studying on my own a viable alternative? If so, what online resources are good?
