この靴が可愛い　It is this shoes that are cute.(emphasis)
                (Which shoes do you think cute?)―(I think)This shoes are cute.(directive)

We Japanese clearly distinguish the difference between は and が,
 but it is difficult to explain it.
So I think you don't have to distinguish.
