I moved to Finland to be with my wife but even though I "understand" things, they don't stick in my head, how do I go about this? It's extremely frustrating.

How do the language-experts on /lang/ learn languages and make things really stick in their heads?

When you were a toddler it was probably the same, you just don't remember it. Continually get yourself into conversations with people, and don't be afraid of sounding/understanding things like a toddler, because in language terms, you *are* a toddler.
