Hungarian is not Finno-Ugric

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-20 6:38

Jobbik is calling for the rethinking of the Finno-Ugric linguistic theory based on fraudulent reasonings and politically motivated arguments. In a letter to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Jobbik challenges members of the institution to reexamine traditionally held views on the origin of Hungarians that had been part of the national consciousness before the Finno-Ugric theory was introduced into national awareness by the Habsburgs.

The Habsburgs, by all means, wanted to eradicate the commonly held view of national origin. In order to do that they commissioned foreign linguists to construct a fake narrative that was alien to the native notion of history; the goal was to break national resistance by depriving the nation of its traditional views of history that posed an obstacles to Habsburg colonization.

The Finno-Ugric language theory and the fraudulent arguments about the origin of Hungarians concocted by German linguists a century ago. Before, Hungarians had an altogether different view about their own origin. They held that they were the descendants of Hun-Scythian ancestors.

The story of Hun-Scythian origin has survived in oral and written forms and are supported by Greek, Arabic, Iranian and Chinese historical documents.

Genetic research that has been conducted, recently, in the regions once belonged to the Soviet empire, shows that Hungarians have no genetic relationship with the Finno-Ugric people. These new findings have already reflected in the Finnish school textbooks. Finns are already distancing themselves from the Finno-Ugric fairy tale.

In order to survive globalization people have to know their true history, otherwise loose their identities as the global elite has been conducting a clandestine war on national cultures. The aim is to uproot human beings from their social environments that provide protective surroundings for them. The displaced masses can be manipulated and used as mindless consumers--an ultimate goal of those who rule the world. The global landscape is already full of socially engineered human beings (“experts without spirit, sensualist without heart” --Goethe); these are the people that make up the bulk of consumer societies. They function as tools rather than spiritual beings in the hands of the global elite.

What Jobbik wants is a healthy debate about all aspects of Hungarian history. It is not the intention of Jobbik to interfere with scientific research or by any means restrict scientific freedom, but rather, inspire scientists to examine the contradictions inherent in the Finno-Ugric narrative.

In the spirit of this outlook, Jobbik supports the establishment of new university departments and other civic workshops devoted to the research of the history and the origin of Hungarians. It calls for the establishment of a new institution dedicated solely to the research of the ancient history of Hungarians. Jobbik also calls for the revision of textbooks of the elementary and high schools, in order to let children and young people getting acquainted with the true history of their ancestors, as early as possible.

implying I'm going to read that

But there are definitely common cognates between the Finnic and Ugric language families, so I don't get what this guy's trying to do. Regardless of their ethnic origins, the languages are definitely related.

Japanese and English have common cognates. But those are all modern foreign words? So why is it that hard to believe the handful of Uralic cognates in Hungarian weren't borrowed?

Or better yet, those Finno-Ugric people borrowed it from the Hungarians.

As a Finn I find Hungarians really boring. I wish Finnish was actually related to cool languages like Japanese and Korean.

Instead all we have are some Arab-looking bell pepper eaters :/

I could show you a picture of a blond Hungarian and a dark, Asian looking Finn.

Linguistics is kind of a shitty science anyway

I mean, the kind of bullshit that linguists come up with explaining how children are able to acquire language and how languages are related seems like they're just making shit up based only on minimal information and seeing what sticks.

So, it's possible that Hungarian isn't Finno-Ugric and is misclassified, just as Korean sometimes is.

Ethnicity doesn't really have as much to do with language, though. For example, the English are actually of primarily Celtic ancestry, but speak a Germanic language introduced by invaders. Much of South America uses Spanish language, even though they're not related to the Spanish people.

Adding to your examples. Many Negroes speak English and French yet obviously are neither Germanic nor Latin.

koreans treat turkish, korean and hungarian as the same language family.

I don't understand the point of this discourse either.

Hungarian is definitely related to Finnish and Estonian, showing itself in the fact that all three nations produce a very large group of clever scientists, inventors, software experts and artists of all kinds, much more than you would expect in relation to their small numbers

Th Finno-Ugric theory is not "invented". neither by Habsburgs or Germans, nor by Soviets (and, to make sure, nor by "Jews"), but discovered by true scientists, of whom many actually were Hungarian.

No serious scientists even considers the absurd and pointless theory that this guy is trying to defend, beacuse it has been proven utterly wrong!

Hungarian nationalists should in fact be proud and grateful that they are related to the modern, clever and hardworking Finns and Estonians, rather than to those backward medieval Turks or (even worse) those barbaric Huns, who attacked the high civilisation of ancient China, exterminated the (highly developed) Tocharians and Scythians, practised ethnic cleansing in Eastern Europe, raped many Gothic and Slavic women and children and destroyed the Roman Empire, and hence rightfully faded into oblivion soon after their monstruous atrocities.

In al caes, we are talking about language and culture, not about genetics.
Genetically, geographic proximity is the largest determining fact, because most people tend to find sexual partners nearby (due to practical causes) who are not distant relatives (due to sexual selection).

Hence, most Finns are geneticaly close to Russians, Balts and Scandinavians, while most Hungarians are closely related to Western-Slavs, Southern Slavs, Romanians, Germans and Jews.

It might even have been more inspiring to be related to the briliant Japanese and Koreans, or the spirityal Tibetans, but alas, no such family relationships have proven to exist until now.
