Languages in college?

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-28 23:24

Alright, so I'm a junior in high school (inb4 underage b&) and I only speak English right now, but I plan on learning Spanish by the time I'm out of high school and hopefully getting some Korean down by then. I'm just wondering about some of your experiences with foreign languages in college. Of course it will vary from school to school, but generally, is it better than high school foreign language classes? I'm not planning on majoring in linguistics or a certain language, but I'm just wondering if the classes could add some or just make me not want to learn a language (somewhat like high school classes have done)

From my experiences they are pretty much the same.  The only difference is the quicker pace in college level courses.

Typical day in class is:

1.  Learn new words or grammar.

2.  Practice new words or grammar as a class/classmates.

3.  Go over the practiced stuff as a whole class.

Still do stupid shit, like skits and stuff.  1 weeks worth of homework due on fridays.  Quizzes and tests whenever they schedule them.

In college your fellow students are usually more interested in learning, which makes a big difference.

I plan on learning Spanish

Planning on? If you ever hope to be fluent in any language, you should start young, i.e. now.

I'm starting soon, just with the 5 hours of homework I have a night it's kind of hard. But I'm doing some stuff, just not as regularly as I should.

Don't change these.
