The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time is a pretty easy and good read which I have read for English class too. It's short and interesting.

I am personally reading Heart of Darkness which is also short but much harder to read. I'd recommend that when you reach a higher level.

Also, Hemingway is pretty easy to read and still leaves a lot to interpretation. He's also one of the greatest writers in American litterature, so he would be good for you to read.

Also also, George Orwell is influencial and not too hard either. I can definitly recommend Animal Farm, 1984 and Homage to Catalonia.
