General Tips.

ITT: Post general tips on learning a new language.

For me it's always simultaneously try to learn some basics of language that has majorly influenced your target language and/or shares common origin with it. In case with Romance languages it's Latin, in case with English it's (optimally) French and German, in case with Japanese some basics of Classical Chinese would be good, but you might as well go with any variety of modern Chinese. This not only helps learn your target language, but also a whole lot of related ones. I can roughly understand any written Romance language, as well as Germanic and Chinese.

While im learning a language, I try to find some source of entertainment thats in that language, like tv shows or movies. seeing the language in practical use helps me retain it better.
