I want to at least understand a few things my dad says to my grandmother, I mean I get like 15 words but that's kinda gay.

I'm attending a course here in Zagreb and it's quite hard.

well lucky for you, you live in Zagreb. I had to learn living in Australia. You'll come out more fluent than i am. I'd say i actually use Croatian about twice a week at most.

Google "Croaticum". If you have no strings attached to Australia (and if you have some savings) you might want to apply for a scholarship here. I'm not Croatian, actually I'm Argentine.
You get a shared room for 200 kuna and you might receive some subsidy for your food, which allows you to eat for US$ 1 per meal.

The course just started, so you might have to wait around a year. But, so far, I'm not regretting it one bit. The only thing to bear in mind is that 3rd world countries have priority when it comes to receive the scholarship.

Croatian is being everyday more and more distant from Serbian so i don't recommend it.
