Vocabulary for drugs

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-18 22:16

Drug vocabulary is hard to find. It's usually not in the normal dictionaries because it is slang, and it's not in slang dictionaries because drugs are too taboo. Usually, it is a rich and actively changing area of a language due to the underground nature of what it deals with.

How do you talk about drugs and their effects in your language?

In English, you can be:
   high, stoned, or loaded

In a sentence:
   I'm really high right now
   Let's go get stoned
   I'm so loaded

A cannabis smoker might:
   smoke a bowl
   take a hit
   roll a joint

How would you translate these in your language? What are common drug terms you use that wouldn't appear in a dictionary?

Brazilian Portuguese:

For cannabis:
Maconha [the common name],
Erva ["herb"],
Barato ["cool" - contrast with "careta" (slang for tobacco, "boring")],
Baseado [dunno the origin, but it's homonym with "embased" LOL],
Fumo ["smoke"],
Bagulho ["thing"]
...

Smoke cannabis:
Fumar um [to smoke a cig] / fumar unzinho [to smoke a little one],
Chapar [to get high],
Chapatina [when lots of people are getting high, or a person is getting too high],
Queimar um [to burn a cig]
Marofa [the smelling weed smoke itself - note, "fumo" is the weed per se, "marofa" is the smell and the smoke]
...

Don't change these.
