that's a problem of your language: many times you can't tell if someone's talking about female or male subjects.
It's not perfect, because you can only tell if it's all-female, or male/mixed. But at least we have that bit of extra information; it's important to know if we're talking about a group of male or female nurses, for example. Without having to add a whole extra word or group of words.
