Name: bez imena 2009-06-30 9:58

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-01 6:11

haha you wackey russians!
how's the bitter cold this time of year? (and every other?)

But how would a slavchan get around linguistic differences?
i know some of the languages are mutually intelligible, but polish =/= Croatian.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-01 6:22

Kurac! Svi smo mjučuli inteliđibl!

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-01 7:36

Call it Balkanchan, or whatever. We don't want the Ruskies, cossack fucks.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-01 7:54

>>13
Balkanchan doesn't easily roll off the tongue. and that's saying something considering the disdain for vowels most Balkan languages have.
Also i want to include Poland and not Greece or Albania so Balkanchan doesn't work there either

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-01 8:36

Fagchan then

Slav comes from Slava meaning glory.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 3:02

but what word did 'slave' come from?

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 7:34

>>21
'Slave' comes from 'Slav'.

Source: etymonline.com

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 10:27

>>20
No. Slav comes from "slovo" which means "word" (or "letter"/"character" in some South Slavic languages). It used to be a description for people who spoke the same language when the Germanic and Slavonic/Slavic people shared a border. The word "Nijemci" came into existence at the same time, meaning "deaf" or "mute".

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 10:38

>>24
Forgot to add that the word "Nijemci" is for Germans. Germans = Nijemci = deaf/mute (not meant as an insult, simply referring to people who speak a different language, and Germans bordered Slavs for quite a long time, and still do). Slavs = Slavi/Slavoni/Slaveni/Sloveni/Slovani = those who speak "the" language

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 10:58

>>24
then why would slavs call themselves "word" as opposed to "glory"?

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 11:21

>>26
The world for "glory" basically comes from the word for "word".

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 11:25

>>26
Because I fucking explained it in >25. "Those who understand words". Geez.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 11:29

>>27
No, it does. Slava/Glory comes from feast/feasting. "Slava njemu" "Slavimo njega", itd, refers to feasting in honour of someone.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 14:03

>>29
>No, it doesn't.
Typo.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-02 21:19

...There's glory for you!'
`I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. `Of course you don't -- till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'
`But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.
`When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.

you are all wrong. since neither of those theories has been proven

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-03 1:54

>>32
#1 It's not a theory, word etymologies are never considered theories
#2 A theory is not something "yet to be proven", a theory already has evidence that supports it

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-03 9:08

>>33
shut the fuck up. etymologies are not always an exact science.
quit this e-penis measuring contest while you still have some dignity. FUCK

can't a single thread stay on topic

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-03 9:23

Disregard that, I suck cocks.

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-03 9:26

>>34
But the etymology of the word Slava isn't debated by a single linguist.

Name: sage 2009-07-03 22:28
