Dearest /lang/, recommend for me tv shows (besides dubbed anime) to watch to practice my french and german. I figure since part of the reason my japanese has gotten to the level it is (still much lower than I'd like) is because i've listened to such copious amounts of anime, I should try it with french and german too.

German here.
Your problem is that there are no decent german TV shows at all.
We either produce horrible shit, that no one in a sane mind would want to watch, besides Tatort which probably will be pretty boring to you, or we butcher american shows through awful remakes or horrendous dubs. It's a shame.

I would say it's the same quality as the english dub, if it's from TV, stuff that went straight to Dvd/VHS could have better dubs, but I don't know since I watched that stuff with english sub.
You may have a look at this: http://www.sat1.de/videos/ganzefolgen/
A few TV channels offer the service to stream the most recent episode of a german produced show.

Austrian and German are pretty much the same. Like Serbian to Croatian

Schwarzwaldklinik was pretty awesome. The German version of ER, if you will.

a good first step would be to watch shows you know in german ( i found simpsons and family guy are pretty good translated), so you get an idea of basic pronunciation and then move on to interviews, late night talk shows ....

US Shows in French are not good. But the cinema is still a good idea.
