I know how it is:
in Russian - мяу (myau)
in English - mew ([mju:] phonetically)
in Japanese - nya (?) I dunno how it is properly by kana

ГАВ in Russian. I guess it sounds similar to the Greek version.

Nope. >>1 and >>68 are right. НЯ is NYA written with cirillic alphabet, i don't know what is НЮ. LOL, it sounds like the sound of that monstergirl from 'Elfen Lied'. Also this word means 'nude' in Russian.
