or any decent textbooks? good text books on any language are a rarity though

Oh, I noticed you asked for books too. Well, I used http://www.teachyourself.co.uk/lhungarian.htm in conjunction with regular practice with an native speaker. The book wasn't bad - I expected it to go into more depth, but thinking about it, it covered a fair amount of material given its length. There are a lot of exercises in. I'd say I learned as much from having my answers to these exercises corrected by a native speaker as I did from the book itself.
