I'm nearing the end of my Political Science major requirements and I'm still pondering whether I'm going to bother getting a minor. My parents have offered to continue paying if I consider doing so and I have to say that the more I study languages (I speak pretty good Spanish and marginal German at this point), the more intriguing I find the field of linguistics. So I'm wondering from those of you who have taken courses in the field, exactly how difficult is it? What have your experiences been like? I'd like to know.
I'm also wondering exactly how difficult languages like Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian are to learn on one's own, because my university doesn't offer any of them. It does offer Japanese, which intrigues me for somewhat different reasons, but the writing system simultaneously intimidates and intrigues me.
Seeking thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance.
