Hei suomalainen! I am interested in learning your language properly. Where/how can I learn it?
I already have a book to try and learn from, but it's not working out seeing as I have no real way of practicing it and learning it properly. I'm too shy to talk to Finnish people on the net and learn it from them.
Any help would be appreciated :D.

Yea, well....
What I meant is that I'm not going to front up to some random person with 'Hey, I want to learn your language. Can you help me?' or whatever (I know, I'm doing that here...but this is an anonymous board). I would make Finnish friends, but I don't get to see Finns enough for that to happen.

Well, IRC-galleria is one of the biggest places to meet Finns...
http://irc-galleria.net/ (Click "satunnainen" for a random profile and "yhteisöt" if you want to browse categories)
And this forum might be of interest, mostly foreigners post there but you can find Finns there as well, of course:

Paljon kiitoksia. I like the FinlandForum bulletin board already, so I think I'll go there for a while before I go to the IRC gallery. :D

I want to learn Finnish because I like the sound of the language, and the country looks nice, so I hope I can go there one day. Also, I don't know why (and I can't explain it), but I really like Finland a lot more than any other country.

How many Finns (%) can understand swedish? I tried speaking swedish on the airport in Helsinki (or Helsingfors, as we call it) but they were mostly like WTF???, so it failed horribly...

Everyone SHOULD understand, but... in practice people doesn't talk swedish very well. That's because there is some kind of collective dislike of learning swedish. Don't ask why.

Apparently 5% of Finns speak Swedish. I know many road signs are in Finnish and Swedish and that it's officially bilingual.

Finns need to start learning Swedish as a 2nd language and not English.

Actually Swedes should start learning English as a primary language, and ditch Swedish altogether. It's not like Swedish is particularly well organized. Not English either, but it wins by default due to its user base.

Dude, Sweden is The Suck. It's too full of stupid people - I should know, 'cause I'm born there. I'm learning japanese and gettin' the hell out of that country.
