Korean - Mieum vs bieup

Name: Hangeul neubie 2006-07-29 16:32

I was just reading the Wiki article on Korean (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_language) and I noticed something confusing, but the talk page for it is the size of a novel, so I figured it wasn't the place for newbie chatter...

I noticed a lot of times bieup (ㅂ) is read as mieum (ㅁ) and I'm wondering if that ever actually happens, or if somehow no one has noticed? I thought it might be something about how it's written, but I can generally read Hangul now, and it always has the protruding lines from the top. Here's a line copy+pasted from SK/NK pronounciations:

압록강    Amnok River
NK: amrokgang (amrokkang) 암록강
SK: amnokgang (amnokkang) 암녹강

Now to me... the NK and SK lines say (in no particular romanization scheme, sorry!) "amrokgang" and "amnokgang" but the written word looks like "AProkgang." Is this how it should be, or is the article just full of erroneous bieups?

Thanks

Don't change these.
