I've seen my fair share of anime, and met my fair share of Japanese people. The phrase "It can not be helped" and its variants represent a quintessential facet of the culture from which the language originates.

What I am wondering is if there is a name for this type of 'embodying phrase,' and if there are others like it. The only additional one that comes to mind is the American "fuck you."
