So There's a time article about Mandarin Chinese being the language to learn if you already know English.
Where can I get started online with Mandarin?

I don't believe in online self-made learning for a language like this. I will learn it (well both simplified and traditional) at university next year and they promised me A LOT of work. You have methods (I recommend written and audio) that you can buy in libraries but dunno wich are good.

It's a known fact that amerikans and English can't write their own language. What I wonder is... do all Chinese write like what I have seen, like monkeys, or amerikans, that is?
Pimsleur course. YOu can buy it for 300$ or get it P2P. It's used by the State Department to train Diplomats and Attaches in Languages (there are other language courses). And yes, learning Madrin would be very wise.

Start out with pinyin to get the pronounciation down, but move to characters as soon as you feel comfortable, because reliance on pinyin is an awful habit.

Majority of people in net use monkey english "u giv stuff" and majority of these monkeys are British or American. Ever played any online game? Oddly 4chan seems to have mostly survived from them. Maybe they're banned regularly.
