The average Taiwanese is richer than the average Chinese. If you look at the history of Taiwan, China pretty much neglected Taiwan. It was a dump until Japan came along but unlike other places, the Japanese actually treated the populace well. Now that the Taiwan has become rich through their sweat and tears, all of a sudden the Mainland wants it back. China should give back parts of Mongolia, Tibet, and Vietnam if they want to use history to take back land.
