Now I have always wanted to start my small imageboard, however I have no idea how to. What do I need to download to get the software and how do I necessary install it?

Use Kareha. Seriously. Textboards are more appropriate. I believe you can also post images on Kareha (it's probably an option in config or something I've seen it on the wakaba support textboard), but the main purpose of kareha is to serve as a text board platform.
