So in the rules and in the Report thingy they mention you can report shit for being illegal. Out of curiosity: what actually constitutes "illegal"? What can possibly be posted that can be reported for illegal content?

Just something that popped into my head. I've never seen somebody complain of illegal banning (probably because it was a permaban?) or probably because nobody is actually dumb enough to post illegal stuff.

I saw someone complain about a week ban for linking to a rapidshare of an album (which would be illegal in America) before, I don't think that happens much though.

Kinda silly. Cause it's more than just a double standard it's like a 400-standard of laws.

It means CP, basically. Yes, welcome to the 2000s, the only thing that can get you in trouble on the Internet is pictures of naked little girls.

So basically the Illegal function is just a convenient, quick-and-easy way to get yourself banned for reporting something that's otherwise genuinely delete-worthy, with the exception of CP that nobody ever fucking posts anyway?

The more you know===*

Most of time you just us the rule violation instance. It really isn't that bad. Nor have I been banned for using the report function wrong. I have been frozen on reporting though. That was a heavy day.

You're kidding, right?  CP gets posted ALL THE FUCKING TIME, it's just that most of the time, it gets deleted before more than a handful of people SEE it.  That was pretty much the REASON why the "Report" function was put in place to begin with - to help deal with the ever-increasing frequency of CP on /b/.

Before that, it was not rare for CP posts to last five or ten minutes before a mod (there were no janitors then) noticed it.  "Twenty Minutes!" was a fairly popular meme used as a stock response to CP, back in the day (after one CP post had survived that long before deletion).  Often the first reply in a CP thread - even before "fukken saved!" - was the clock-countdown image from Evangelion, sometimes altered to start at 20 min.  In the days immediately before reporting came along, there were threads that lasted even longer than that (I remember one that lasted over forty-five minutes).

Three things: reporting, and the institution of the "replying to CP = b&" policy, and the prohibition of JB and other "grey area" threads (which often started with legal material, only to shift to CP in the middle), rather killed the culture of CP threads which once existed on /b/.  It STILL gets posted, though, on /b/ and even sometimes on the worksafe boards, though.  Deleting CP is, as I understand it, once of the principal tasks occupying the time of mods and janitors alike; which, by the way, is why they don't always respond to reports for rule violations in a timely manner, as "illegal content" has priority.

Yeah, CP gets posted all the fucking time. When I first came to 4chan it was still known as a pedo hangout rather than the SUPAR HXC highschool hangout it is now.

CP is Disgusting and any pedo or any one involved with it should be burned alive!

Along with the above mentioned: Posting warez, making threats (Jake Brahm), links to worms or viruses, and requesting / contributing (even if it's to scold or lol) in those threads.

"What is the lethal dose of tramadol? I'm thinking of becoming an hero."

This was posted on /b/ recently. I know Anons there say stupid shit all the time, but is this crossing the line?
