The new sage function?

Name: Anonymous 2008-07-29 13:04

How is it going to work? I could see a limited amount of sages being distributed to the users, and when somebody overrides that designated number of sages that person will get banned. Kinda like with the report button.

Sage doesn't really do anything so there's no point in limiting it. If anything, sage needs to be encouraged because people think their three word posts that aren't funny, informative, or interesting are worth bumping the thread. And worse, people bump shitty threads and troll threads to tell the OP to GTFO, thus prolonging the thread's existance and encouraging poor trolls to make similar threads.

From moot's post, it sounded like he wanted something like thread / comment voting, which I don't like either (see: Digg).

you seem to forget people that sage-bomb threads just because it's about something they don't like

I thought about it, but I don't see the point in making limits that would restrict users who use it fairly. I don't see sage flooding often anymore, and the vast majority of times I do it is a terrible thread. Sage flooding is against the rules anyway, so report it if it annoys you.

sage bombing  thread is, almost always, just stupid. thread limits are pretty high and a solitary poster adding 40 sages posts usually has no effect.

i often use sage, and I'm surprised by the number of posters who seem to take it as a personal insult when it's not aimed at them.

thread voting would vastly improve 4chan, I think

You don't belong at 4chan.

Is there a nokosage function on 4chan and if not would it be good to add one? (one that sages the thread and returns to the thread)

>sage-bomb threads
That is against the rules.

>solitary poster adding 40 sages posts usually has no effect.
In my experience it has great effect. After 40 posts filled with DESU or whatever there is no real discussion going on anymore.

>thread voting would vastly improve 4chan
I disagree, it would become impossible to avoid faggotry in boards. Regularly visit /jp/ and could imagine a campaign to vote down all touhou threads or all non-touhou threads and people whining about it. Hopefully if it is added it will have no effect on the normal movements of the thread (like bump prevention or hiding when it gets to -5 score).

im convinved less people would complain if majority vote is done through a democratic system like thread voting because then the miniority wouldnt be heard

Don't change these.
