4chan + IRC

Why haven't the wonderful programmers at 4chan created a board function that automatically updates the thread. Constantly having to refresh the thread is annoying.

So... 7chan invents a feature and then you have the nerve to ask for it here?

"SEVEN CHAN SUCKS BALLS AND STEALS OUR MEMES... but could we please have some of their features?"

That's the way the real world works.

It's a shitty feature which we absolutely do NOT need.  Personally, I hate it when web pages auto-refresh unnecessarily, especially when I'm trying to fill out a form on them.  There are a very few, very limited, useful applications for automatic refreshing, but 99% of web designers who use it should be publicly executed in the slowest and most painful fashion possible.  It's almost always poor design.

Besides which, I'd be willing to wager that such a feature would increase the site's bandwidth usage (and hence it's overhead costs, BTW) significantly.  4chan can be plenty slow at times as it is; do you want to make it slower?  For all that "F5F5F5F5F5" is a meme, most of us don't actually do it very often (especially outside of /b/).

I was thinking of a feature that was different from F5-ing. I was hoping they could turn 4chan into the first IRC-imageboard. Or perhaps separate the post field from the thread so when the thread refreshes the post field wont be effected by it.

True, hopefully one of these days moot will have enough money to afford such a feature. Or perhaps, he could grant this feature to people who are willing to pay monthly for it.
