A clarification I'd like to see

Name: Morty Maxwell !B7L.awRrV. 2008-02-08 23:20

I was recently banned from /v/ for reporting a thread where the OP was talking about pirating games on his R4. The mod said it was because I reported it as illegal content when "discussing the R4 isn't illegal." Can the FAQ be changed to clarify what the difference is between "rule violation" and "illegal content" when reporting a post?

eh, mods are fags, they'll ban you for saying anything they dont like, mod likes his R4, you = B&

Did they really ban you for a SINGLE report that was not deemed to be correct, or were you spamming the report system?

I've submitted reports (which I thought were justified) on several occasions that no mod took any action on, but I've never been b& for it.  I don't frequent /v/, but on any board I do visit, "abusing the report system" is not normally interpreted as "submitting a single false report," as long as it was *reasonable.*  There's a lot of grey area around both rule violations and illegal content, and it's possible for a user to make a good-faith report which the mod disagrees with, and that shouldn't (and doesn't, in my experience) result in a ban.

>I was recently banned
FINALLY

And now, for something thread related, you can report something for "illegal content" if that post depicts something illegal in the United States, for example, child porn.

I had made a lot of reports in the (recent) past, but that's mainly because of how much rule-breaking content there was on /v/. This I would not consider spamming. My idea of spamming the system is reporting every thread you see because "DURR HURR I FOUND REPORT BUTON MODS DON'T CARE SO I'LL HAVE FUN HURRRRRRRRRRRRRR" or something like that.

Of the threads you reported, how many do you believe the mods took action on?  If it was significantly less than "nearly all," then they may very well have considered you to have been report-spamming.

Also, these are the /v/ mods we're talking about; and, if their reputation is to be believed, they are pretty quick to ban, compared with the mods on some of the other boards (/a/, for instance).

Oh, and here's a picture of the ban page.

That praticular picture summed up my feelings pretty well when I got banned.

Sounds to me like you submitted more than one false report then.  In which case, you earned your b&.

mods are not consistent at all. One prunes fatty threads in /s/ but the next mod bans you for saging the same thread reposted 3 hours later.
