referencing 4chan outside of 4chan

How do you feel about talking about 4chan or admitting you visit 4chan?  Would you do it on other websites? (besides other chans of course) What about in real life?

I avoid doing so like the plague.

Talking about 4chan on (work safe) websites is different than talking about it IRL.  They will be more understanding and if they aren't at least you are anonymous.  However there is always that small chance that'll someone you know IRL will see your screen name over your shoulder or something.  And then there is a small chance they will visit that site (or google your screen name) and see a post where you talk about being a 4channer.

It probably depends on who you are in RL, especially how old you are.  If you are 16 then your peers are not going to care very much and it is unlikely anyone besides your peers will see who you are on the web.  If you are older you don't have as close a relationship with your peers anymore.. who knows if they would be weirded out.  Also, the chances for completely random people to see your screen name increases (like if you use your account at work or something).  Its still a small chance that they would search your post history and see you talk about 4chan, but a chance nonetheless.

I'm 26 and I would never mention 4chan to anyone outside my closest circle of friends. It's my dirty little secret and I intent to keep it that way.

However, one of my friends who got into 4chan because of me likes to use the memes alot IRL and it is starting to become a problem.

I just know the select few of my friends that actually use 4chan. We talk about it sometimes but not often.

I know at least 3 people IRL who are on 4chan, but I've not mentioned that I am yet. I'm not sure of the best way, shouting DESU DESU DESU or asking if they liek mudkips at some point doesn't sound like the coolest idea. Bizarrely and annoyingly they're all pretty good with women as well.

Apart from that I think I should probably keep it a secret.

Ehh, I have a friend that I showed 4chan because I figured she would enjoy the /y/ board. Occasionally she or I will mention something we found/saw/heard of/lol'd at here, but we don't really say memes or anything. Also, some "hip" college-age dude at work mentioned rule 34, so I'm guessing he knows his internets. Maybe I'll wryly spring a meme on him one day and see what he says.

I see people starting 4chan humor on other forums and it's lame everytime I see it. Srsly I think these people just aren't funny enough to come up with their own jokes so they constantly repeat memes off some website. Also, you're all fags if you think 4chan is "sick shit" you have to stay quiet about, I wasn't even shocked by /d/ style art when I was 13 years old. All of you are lame.

i tell like lots of my friends about 4chan and the other chans, and most of them just laugh at me after they checked =P
but i never had a problem speaking about it, and if i send them *.gif's or something they lol'ed too - so, i don't see any problem about it =)
