I was just thinking on the aspect that by adding a search to material that doesn't exist for a long time anyways would be just dumb. Along with that, the amount of traffic that would be hammering the database would slow it down so much that it would retrieve the results pretty much after the material has been deleted.

I assume the OP was talking about the textboards, where threads survive for years (are they even purged at all?). For the imageboards it would obviously be stupid.

I don't think searching the textboards would be popular enough to make an impact. Aren't pages here generated on the fly anyway?

Well, for the textboards, that is a different argument entirely. However, the textboards use flatfiles, and while it is easier to have a board with textfiles in terms of speed, I don't know how easy it is on the memory to search them.
