Search function

I would appreciate a search function for this board

Yeah, and what good is a search function? Basically that's saying "lets add on about 1000 more db queries per minute".

I would appreciate it if admins ignored this request for a search function, thx.

I was just thinking on the aspect that by adding a search to material that doesn't exist for a long time anyways would be just dumb. Along with that, the amount of traffic that would be hammering the database would slow it down so much that it would retrieve the results pretty much after the material has been deleted.

I assume the OP was talking about the textboards, where threads survive for years (are they even purged at all?). For the imageboards it would obviously be stupid.

I don't think searching the textboards would be popular enough to make an impact. Aren't pages here generated on the fly anyway?

Well, for the textboards, that is a different argument entirely. However, the textboards use flatfiles, and while it is easier to have a board with textfiles in terms of speed, I don't know how easy it is on the memory to search them.

Actually it's all stored in a database, not flatfiles.

wget -r -nd -nH -l1 http://dis.4chan.org/imag/ -O /dev/stdout | grep whatever you wanted

(... or something like that. You might wanna think of a way to keep it in one domain.)

I've been using google site:dis.4chan.org, but the results often show an old page where the thread has since moved somewhere else
