The stupidity of the imageboards has risen to new levels due to the random bumpbot, meaning that new threads can be lost whilst old dead ones are constantly recycled, and making it almost impossible to track threads anymore. Can't a script be written to autoban them? Maybe something which bans on finding an IP which posted and deleted more than once per minute (I'm assuming the bumpbot works by posting and then immediately deleting).

When you make a post to a thread it bumps it. When you delete that post it stays bumped. If you do it really fast, the thread gets bumped and nobody sees the reply that bumped it, so nobody knows (except timestamp observers) that it's basically cheating.
Banning the OP from bumping his own thread after a certain threshold I *think* is a feature of futaba.

Yup, banning the OP from bumping his own thread is a feature, but the bumpbot doesn't do that, it posts/deletes to any thread at random thus circulating old threads back to the front page and generally fucking things up.

Exactly, so if they can't bump it, the bot loses it's functionality and purpose.

READING COMPREHENSION MOTHERFUCKER, DO YOU HAVE IT?
How the fuck preventing the OP from bumping his thread would change anything when a post made by ANYONE will bump it?
We should just disable post deletion.

No can do with the current upload system. Sometimes stuff accidentally gets uploaded into a separate thread or to the wrong board or from a wrong folder.

It would need something like a flag system and a temp file of I.P.s where for instance, a deletion gets an IP entry and timestamp in a file, and a routine which clears out anything older than, say, two minutes but checks for multi-appearances of the IP on the file. If it appears more than once, that means it's probably a bumpbot. That of course has an overhead.....

Yeah it would require recording deletions which I'm 99% sure isn't done right now anyway.
