they've been really aggravating for quite a while, but after a recent incident I've decided to finally complain about it here, because I assume throwing a hissy fit at /p/ will only get myself banned.
First incident happened a while ago. I was traveling and stopped at a hotel where there was a truck mounted on top of another truck. After thinking to myself "buttsecks, lulz" I figured maybe the guys at 4chan would get a kick out of it, so I took a photo of the two trucks and decided to post it on /p/. Shortly afterwards it was deleted by a janitor. I guess it was too inappropriate? I don't know. I took the photo myself, I didn't violate any of the rules. I can only assume that a janitor in /p/ is either [1] a prude, or [2] just lurks around looking for stuff to delete because it makes him feel important.
The recent incident is what's prompted me to complain. A devianTART pretending to be an admirer, posted their own crappy art and a link to their deviantART account. I posted a critique that was harsh [partially because she had the skill of a goth myspace whore but felt like she was the hottest shit since Ansel Adams], but still a critique nonetheless. Can you guess what happened to my critique? BALEETED.
So I'm not allowed to post harsh critique on /p/ either? I wasn't being an outright dick saying "your shit sucks, GTFO;" I was actually providing a critique, maybe something that would get her to pull her head out of her ass and realize her photos aren't that great, and we're not going to bow down and worship her photography skills like she expected. Correct me if I'm wrong: what separates us from devianTART is that we don't gush over photos with comments like "omfgwtfbbq, I loooooove your work, soooooooo cute, kawaii desu ne ^______^" like this photographer was expecting [praise and nothing else], but we discuss and use big-boy words. If you want devianTARTs coming back thinking 4chan is just a place to advertise for more free page views, then the janitors are doing a good job keeping it that way.
Long story short: /p/ a board for photography, it doesn't have to be the most uptight and most kid-friendly place on 4chan. I just want the janitors to loosen up and quit acting like such dicks. If you ever wondered why /p/ never has epic threads, its because they're always being deleted before something interesting happens.
