Some britfag claimed he got V& yesterday for visiting 4chan, albeit for just browsing (not being a sick faggot,MAY THEY DIE PAINFULLY.)

I know this is most likely delicious copypasta but, if in the unlikley case that he did get v& for doing nothing on 4chan, how the hell did they partyvan poor innocent mr britfag? through his isp? can they get ip's in other ways other than Vanning a server? the only other way I can think of is Mr britfags Isp ratting on him.

Is anyone gifted enough on the intrawebs to know?

1. Moot gets subpoena ("Did this IP visit 4chan?")
2. Moot looks in logs
3. Moot replies
4. Van has an unscheduled visit at user's place

No, that is not what happened. Yes, it's possible.

This is britain, a police state, but this guy is probably being shipped to Australia as we speak since Britain doesn't have the capacity to hold everyone who visits 4chan in prison.

All indications are that the web is very, very loosely monitored. You hear these paranoid rumors about Echelon and backdoors on encryption systems. If such exist, they are US military intelligense systems. They're not going to disclose their diplomatically sensitive secrets to get some two-time hackers or pedophiles - they're intrested in nations and resources.

The regular cops are good where they are used to operating, in the "real" world. Specialized cybercr1me taskforces are a marginal effort that ammounts to lots of hype. Look at the people that are arrested: the hackers have done something like $50M damages before they are caugth and the pedophiles raped seven children before they're stash of "both animated and real" CP is disclosed.

tl;dr I doubt the FBI, let alone British Police, even knows about 4chan.

The FBI have known about it at least since the football fiasco.  Whether they paid it any attention previously, I think is doubtful.  Given the the fact that it was the media, not the government, which made a big deal out of messing with football; In concurrence with >>5, I highly doubt 4chan (or the other chans for that matter) is anything the FBI cares much about even now.

The problem which these sites HAVE had has been with hosting, advertisers, donations, and ISPs.  For instance, it was Dreamhost which shut down 420chan, not the RCMP; and it was potential advertisers and PayPal which led to the removal of /l/ to not4chan.  It's been BT which was resonsible for blocking /b/ in the U.K., as well, as I understand.

Don't change these.
