2ch and 2chan

Whats the diffrence between www.2ch.net and www.2chan.net

Name: Anonymous 2007-02-23 19:27 ID:Heaven

2ch was the original. Just text message boards muxh like this one.

2chan was created to act as a 'catch-all' people mispelling 2ch.net. This has 'imageboards' and is what 4chan is based on.

So 2chan is a cheap ripoff?
Which one is the most popular?

Only the *URL* is a rip-off.  The two sites are completely different conceptually.  As >>2 said, 2ch.net (2channel) is JUST text boards, while 2chan.net (Futaba Channel) is JUST image boards.

One will remember that 4chan started out as just image boards, ala Futaba, before absorbing these text boards from world4chan (which was a replacement for the defunct world2chan - the original English-language clone of 2channel).

That said, 2channel sees more traffic, but even Futaba DWARFS 4chan or any other forum/BBS outside of Japan.

Addendum:

I forgot that Futaba DOES in fact have text-boards (though I'm not clear on whether it had them originally).

Futaba's not a "ripoff," it was originally started as a replacement for 2ch back when 2ch was first getting really huge and started having server issues.  It continued as a smaller and more otaku-centric community with image boards.  Also, protip, nobody calls futaba "2chan," this is only in the url.  When Japanese people say 2ちゃん they mean 2ch, futaba is called futaba.

Futaba was originally only textboards. The imageboards were added late 2002

she goes on @chan

Both sites haven't fundamentally changed at all. It's like they're perpetually stuck in 2000/2001 design-wise. I also would like to add that Futaba's cat board is awesome. The Japanese are the most cat obsessed people on the planet who probably give the ancient Egyptians a run for their money in that department.

In a way I love the outdated designs, its like the internet version of one of those prehistoric fish.

Whoa, calm the fuck down, I didn't say that it was a bad thing. I actually dislike the trend that modern Web design has taken, being bloated as fuck, ect. What I'm saying is that I'm a bit surprised that some sites haven't changed their design at all, and there's nothing stopping people from redesigning their site while maintaining that they say bloat-free and adhere to a sensible form of minimalism.

It is cool, but can you not bump the thread with shitposts? I prefer slow but interesting textboards to fast with nothing to do in them textboards.
