Number of unique /b/ users?

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-10 20:25

I noticed that Alexa puts 4chan in the top 2000 sites online.  That implies that there must be thousands of 4chan users. (I would assume).  I have also read that it takes /b/ only 23 days to produce a million posts.

So, do we have an estimate for the number of /b/ users?  Essentially, I ask, is Anonymous truly legion?

14 of us, all with dynamic ip's

Well, estimates put the number of just those who showed up for the great Habbo raid (12 July) at over 4,000 on Habbo USA alone.

And the habbo raids were always a niche thing. Not everyone is into it.

Habbo raids include other sites though, like myg0t and a bunch of bantown.

Which is why I said "just those," and used a conservative estimate of 4000 (it may have been as high as 6000).  I'd be very surprised if they represented more than 1/4 - 1/3 of the site, even on that day (probably much less).

Yeah, but the vast majority are 4chan.  At least they *were* back then - of late there seem to be far too many nigras who don't even know how to respond to a simple >:3.

Well, there is a counter for the number of unique posts at any given time on /b/. A couple of months ago, it was 500 - 600 people, with the pruning method in place now. Six or seven months before, it was 200-300 people, though threads don't get pruned nearly as fast now because of the higher post before sage limit, so less posts would build up on this number. Right now, it is 800 - 900 with no sticky holding up a bunch of excess posts, 200-300 more than just a couple months ago. So you can probably safely assume we have at least 4,000 - 6,000 people that post on ANY given day, because many of the people counted who post do not stay online for more than 4 or 5 hours, at least the ones I know. According to site stats from when we were smaller in 2004, stats you can find on the the news page here from 2 YEARS ago, we had =
Distinct hosts served in last 7 days 70,949 Hosts (note: only for img.4chan)

That means 70,949 people would lurk and not post in a week.

Look at this two, again from 2 years ago :

Successful requests in last 7 days 27,337,963 Requests

That means, with 70,000 posters, and 27,000,000 requests for pages, 4chan got 385 visits from each person. That means that many people did not just visit and then leave immediately after seeing t/b/. Also, these results are ONLY for IMG.4CHAN.ORG, which held one or two small boards and then /b/(I may be wrong, I came in the tail end of 2004, and I can't remember if /b/ shared a domain and server with the others). This was 2 YEARS AGO. We are much, much, much bigger now. We weren't even popular in the middle of 2004, really.

So basically, because a thread cannot last more than 24 hours on this board and because at any given time, there are at least 800 posts, we have at least 5600 -POSTERS- a week. However, it is much higher, because threads never last 24 hours, barring stickies, which are not counted in that 800 at this moment. We have many, many lurkers that are not counted. So there are many, many, many people who at least lurk 4chan, and thousands of unique posters. Sorry if my math and this paragraph are fucked, I'm really fucking tired.

Don't change these.
