There is strong push by big western publishers such as Ubisoft, EA, etc to maximise day 1 DLC and stamp out second hand games.
They want hardware makers to support as much hardware DRM as possible. Both Microsoft and Sony are heavily investing and exploring this.
Second they want to introduce pseudo day 1 DLC where much of games content will locked off and can only be accessed by connecting online and using once off codes. If you buy the game second hand you will have to re-purchase this content at almost full retail price.
Nintendo being the only ones who can survive without 3rd party games are the only ones so far to tell them to fuck off. Hence the cold shoulder from EA and Ubisoft.
