I posted this on /v/ with some response, but not really what I was looking for. Trying again.
I have limited to no knowledge of hardware/technical aspects of computers, and I have a problem that probably can't be solved, but I figure it's worth a try. My very well-intentioned, non-gamer girlfriend bought me Starcraft II for my birthday. That's awesome, because I loved the original and still play it relatively frequently as a stress-reliever. The problem is that I've got two laptops, neither of which are made for gaming at all. Neither of them meets the minimum specs, and I doubt that they're upgradable. But hell, I figure if someone would know if it's possible (external video card, CPU upgrade, anything?), it would be you nice gentleman. So here goes:
Starcraft II minimum specs, according to Blizzard:
-Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 (Updated with the latest Service Packs) with DirectX® 9.0c
-2.6 GHz Pentium® IV or equivalent AMD Athlon® processor
-128 MB PCIe NVIDIA® GeForce® 6600 GT or ATI Radeon® 9800 PRO video card or better
-12 GB available HD space
-1 GB RAM (1.5 GB required for Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 users)
Laptop 1
-Acer netbook
-No disc drive but I think I can scrounge up an external from somewhere
-XP
-0.99 GB RAM
-Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60 Ghz
-Intel(R) GMA 950 video card
Laptop 2
-Dell Inspiron 1420
-Vista (don't blame me, parents bought it as a graduation present in 2007)
-2.00 GB RAM
-Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 @ 1.50 GHz
-Whatever shitty/nonexistent factory video card came installed on it
I apologize in advance if this request is totally retarded (lack of processor speed seems like a /thread situation right there), but I'm a little desperate, because I don't want to invalidate her present for me. Anyone?
