MPEG Streamclip audio on Mac

Hi.  We are trying to convert videos for use on R4DS, but I am using a Mac (sorry).  The audio works fine in VLC, Quicktime, etc, but MPEG Streamclip will not play any sound.  It will not convert the sound either.  Has anyone run into this problem before?  Any solutions other than using a real computer?

We have referenced Wikihow's tutorial and various forums, but they offer no help for this issue.

you can get virtualdub to run on any linux...
that means you can do it even in ps2
