Fallout 2

I made it to the tanker, but when I try to go to the rig the game crashes. It shows the movie of the tanker, but as soon as the normal game interface appears the screen goes black and I have to ctrl-alt-del. I think there's an error message but I can't read it.

I'm running the game with the official patch, which was enough the last time I played the game. Is there a workaround or should I just give up?
