I've got a few questions about PSP Homebrewing

Homebrewing a PSP that's been updated with the update that comes with Final Fantasy Tactics.. What's the risk of downgrading?

Also, would I be still be able to play UMD's?

It depends what update came with FFTactics on whether you can downgrade easily, or by doing it the harder way.

Google has tons of guides for downgrading a psp so i wont link you them, but if i remember correctly, after 3.40 youve got no luck using a game exploit to downgrade your firmware (lumines, GTA LCS downgrade methods etc).

The harder alternative is making or buying a 'Pandora Battery' either from an old standard battery or getting it off ebay. This basically allows you to downgrade ANY psp firmware by booting the psp into its factory settings menu and going from there.

Again theres a lot of guides out there for making a Pandora Battery on google, so go do some searching! Just pay attention to the guides and dont short the battery by touching the metal casing inside with a tool if you do try this method (shorts the battery and destroys it).

Good luck OP!

Second poster here again, skim read your OP and missed the questions totally.

Downgrading ALWAYS carries a risk of bricking or semi-bricking your PSP, however it depends on the method and the technique.

Pandora Battery has a miniscule chance of bricking the PSP because youre using functionality already built into the handheld. Game exploits basically fool the PSP's Flash storage into becoming writeable, allowing unsigned code to run and downgrade the PSP, this carries a minimal amount of risk too. But it's still risk at the end of the day, nobody is accountable for you trying it :P

The guides say minimum of 80% battery life before you attempt a downgrade AND have the power adaptor in at the same time....this pretty much GUARANTEES you wont get a brick. Unlike if you didnt do those two things and the power ran out ;)

Yes you will still be able to play UMD's, in no way should it affect your ability to play them....it hasnt affected mine! :D

FFT for the PSP came with 3.51 IIRC, just above the Lumines exploit.

Pandora's Battery and the "Magic memory stick" should do fine for downgrading. If anything happens, you can repeat the process.

Don't change these.
